- First Punic War: Battle of Tunes. The Carthaginians under Xanthippus, a Greek mercenary, defeat the Romans under Marcus Atilius Regulus, who is captured.
- A large Roman fleet is lost at sea due to a storm, losing 284 ships and 100,000 men
- Diodotus revolts from Antiochus II Theos, ruler of the Seleucid Empire, establishing the kingdom of Bactria. (approximate date)
