Acworth is a town located in Sullivan County, New Hampshire, USA. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 836.

History
The town is named for Lord Acworth, an English nobleman. It was originally named Burnet after a royal governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The town of Acworth, Georgia was named for this town, because this was the hometown of a railroad engineer there. The land for Acworth was granted in 1752 and the town was incorporated in 1766. Acworth is a source for museum-quality crystals such as beryl.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 101.3 km² (39.1 mi²). 100.7 km² (38.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.61% water. The highest point in Acworth is Gove Hill (1,939 feet above sea level).
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there were 836 people, 318 households, and 234 families residing in the town. The population density was 8.3/km² (21.5/mi²). There were 512 housing units at an average density of 5.1/km² (13.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 96.77% White, 0.84% African American, 0.84% Native American, 0.24% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.32% from two or more races. 1.08% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 318 households out of which 30.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.7% were married couples living together, 6.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.4% were non-families. 19.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the town the population was spread out with 25.7% under the age of 18, 4.7% from 18 to 24, 24.0% from 25 to 44, 30.4% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 101.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.0 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $37,386, and the median income for a family was $41,397. Males had a median income of $29,792 versus $26,912 for females. The per capita income for the town was $18,132. 15.6% of the population and 10.1% of families were below the poverty line. 26.6% of those under the age of 18 and 5.4% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
