Akshay Kumar (born as Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia on September 9, 1967) is an Indian actor working in Bollywood.

Career

Kumar worked as a waiter in Bangkok before starting work in films. He studied martial arts in Hong Kong and is sometimes referred to as the "Bruce Lee of India". His first Bollywood film was Saugandh. Though most of his movies are action films, Kumar recently played Amitabh Bachchan's son in Waqt (2005) which also was his 100th movie, at only 38. He has also done some comic roles in films such as Mujhse Shaadi Karogi and Garam Masala. He has given good performances in his films and has an enormous growing fan base.

He won the Filmfare Best Villain Award for his role in Ajnabee. He also won Best Actor in a Comic Role for Mujhse Shaadi Karogi at the 2005 IIFA Awards. He won himself the first ever "Actor of the Year" Award at Kenster Stardust Max Awards 2006 for his role as 'Mac' in Garam Masala.

2005 was a good year for Akshay career-wise as he gave big hits with the films Bewafaa , Waqt, and Garam Masala. He was named Actor of the Year 2005 by a leading New York publication, and acclaimed organizations such as Rediff. Also he has earned the title of the top grossing star overseas outside of the 'Khans', with this year giving his movies over a three million pound grossing in just the UK itself.

Personal life

He has dated stars Pooja Batra, Raveena Tandon, Rekha and Shilpa Shetty. He is now married to Twinkle Khanna, the daughter of Bollywood actors Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia. Their first son, Araav Bhatia, was born on September 15 2002. Akshay is close friends with another Bollywood actor, Bobby Deol.
