Alexandros Zaimis

Alexandros Zaimis (Greek: Αλέξανδρος Ζαΐμης) (1855 - 1936) was a Greek political figure. The son of Thrasivoulos Zaimis, a former Prime Minister of Greece, he entered politics at a young age, becoming a member of parliament in 1885, and a Prime Minister for the first time in 1897. In 1906 he was appointed Armostis (Viceroy) of Crete representing Prince George of Greece.

In 1917 he again served as Prime Minister of Greece under King George, while Eleftherios Venizelos led a rival government controlling northern Greece. Under Entente pressure, he resigned in favor of Venizelos in June of the same year.

A moderate conservative, he served again as Prime Ministed from 1926 to 1928 in a coalition government of Venizelistst and moderate conservatives. He also served as the country's President from 1929 until the return to monarchy in 1935.

He died in 1936 in Vienna, Austria
