Amanda Bearse

Amanda Bearse (born on August 9, 1958 in Winter Park, Florida) is an American actress, director and comedian best known for her role as wacky neighbor Marcy D'Arcy (formerly Marcy Rhoades) on Married... with Children, a sitcom in the United States, and for her performance in Fright Night as the girlfriend of William Ragsdale menaced by urban vampire Chris Sarandon.

Career

Bearse studied acting at New York City's Neighborhood Playhouse under instructor Sanford Meisner. Her initial success came with the role of Amanda Cousins on the soap opera All My Children between 1981 and 1984. During and after that time she appeared in a string of independent and B-movies, including Protocol (1984), Fright Night (1985), Fraternity Vacation (1985), The Doom Generation (1995), and Here Come the Munsters (1995).

Her big break came in 1987 when she was cast as Marcy Rhoades on the hit FOX TV sitcom Married... with Children. The show consumed her career until 1997.

Directing career

Bearse took up the challenge of television and film directing during her stint on Married... with Children. Between 1995 and 1999 she helmed over 30 episodes of the show. She also directed episodes of Mad TV, Nick Freno: Licensed Teacher, Malcolm & Eddie, Pauly, The Tom Show, Dharma & Greg, Veronica's Closet, Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place, Jesse (starring her former Married... with Children co-star Christina Applegate), and Ladies Man. Amanda, in 2005, directed The Sperm Donor" pilot for NBC starring Maggie Wheeler and David Deluise.

Personal life

Bearse is openly lesbian, having come out in 1993. She lives in Los Angeles, California with her adopted daughter and her long-time partner. Bearse hosted a stand-up comedy TV special called Out There 2, showcasing gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender comedians.
