Blue Sky Studios

From Free net encyclopedia

Blue Sky Studios is an Academy Award winning computer animation studio which specializes in photo-realistic, high-resolution, computer-generated character animation. In addition to their feature-length animated films, Robots (2005) and Ice Age (2002), they have worked on many high-profile movies, primarily in the integration of live-action with computer-generated animation.

The company was founded in 1987 and has its offices in White Plains, New York. Since 1997 it has been a unit of 20th Century Fox (a subsidiary of News Corporation).

Their latest film, Ice Age: The Meltdown, was released in the U.S. on March 31, 2006.

With the success of Ice Age and Robots, the studio has put itself on the map as a respected animation company. And, by much acclaim, has put them in competition with computer animation giants, Pixar and PDI/Dreamworks. In fact, their movie-making pattern is quite similar to that of Pixar's, down to the year window in which each feature film is released. Compare Ice Age of 2002 to Toy Story of 1995, being a highly original and successful debut for both animation companies. Compare Robots of 2005 to A Bug's Life of 1998, three years after the previous feature film and slightly less appealing and successful, but still magical. Ice Age: The Meltdown of 2006 compares to Toy Story 2 of 1999. Only a year after the last feature film, both films are sequels to the first feature films, and both are subject to critical acclaim. Two years later, Pixar released Monsters, Inc. and Blue Sky Studios plans Horton Hears A Who.
