Boğaziçi University is one of the most prominent educational institutions in Turkey, located at the European Side of the Bosphorus, Istanbul (hence the name which means 'University of Bosphorus'). The institution currently known as Boğaziçi University was established in 1971 on the campus of Robert College which in turn was establised in 1863 as the first US school outside the country. Although there are doubts about the tradition's existence in the academical and social structures within the community, Boğaziçi is an extension of Robert College's Higher Education Departments.
Aside from the Güney Campus that was inherited from Robert College, the university at the moment has offices in five other locations. Of those Kuzey Campus, Hisar Campus and Uçaksavar Campus are located in the same area as the Güney Campus. Kandilli Campus is located on eastern side of the Bosphorus and hosts KOERI (Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute). The newest campus is in Kilyos and called Sarıtepe Campus.
