The Brunswick Centre is a grade II listed residential and shopping centre in Bloomsbury, Camden, London, England. It is located between Brunswick Square and Russell Square. It was designed by Patrick Hodgkinson in the mid 1960s and was initially a private development. Building started in 1967 and it ceased in 1972; though the building fell some way short of the intended size. After failing to attract private buyers on time, the block was sold to London Borough of Camden for use as council housing. The exterior of the building was never painted because Camden Council could not afford to complete work on the building after they took control.
It contains 560 flats, numerous shops, a supermarket and the Renoir Cinema. Despite being widely disliked by those who are unsympathetic to modernist architecture it achieved Grade II status in 2000.
Much of the building appears derelict, with many of its shop premises unoccupied, due to the fact that a much-needed £22 million renovation to the centre has been underway since November 2004 and is due to be completed in the summer of 2006.
