International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center

The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center – better known by its Spanish-language acronym CIMMYT, from Centro Internacional de Mejoramiento de Maíz y Trigo – is a Mexico-based research institute dedicated to the development of improved varieties of wheat and maize.

Its main agricultural testing facilities and administrative headquarters are located near Texcoco in México state, some 25 km east of Mexico City.

CIMMYT is one of the 15 specialized research centers – the "Future Harvest Centers" – of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).
