Centimetre
From Free net encyclopedia
A centimetre (US: centimeter) is a factor of the SI unit of length: there are one hundred centimeters in the base unit of measure, the metre. Although the centimeter is a non-standard factor (factors of 103 are often preferred) it is used because it is practical for many everyday measurements.
The centimetre is a base unit in the centimetre-gram-second systems of units, now largely but not completely supplanted by the International System of Units (SI).
One inch is 2.54 cm.
Centimetres are used to measure small lengths. A centimetre is approximately the width of an adult fingernail or the black keys of a piano.
One cubic centimetre in volume is equal to one millilitre.
See 1 E-2 m for a comparison with other lengths.
