Chartered engineer
From Free net encyclopedia
Chartered engineer is a professional qualification in Engineering (not a degree) offered by professional associations with a Royal Charter from the British monarchy similar to the Professional Engineer in other countries. Examples of such institutions are the Institution of Engineers (India), Institution of Engineers of Ireland, and the Institution of Electrical Engineers in the UK. Many European countries have similar qualifications (e.g. EurIng) which are considered, under European law, to be equivalent. In the UK, the qualification is controlled by the Engineering Council UK and is awarded through its member societies. In Australia, Engineers Australia controls the qualification, although it is referred to as a Chartered Professional Engineer. Similarly, the Chartered Professional Engineer qualification applies in New Zealand and is controlled by IPENZ (Institute of Professional Engineers New Zealand).
A chartered engineer is allowed to use the post-nominal letters CEng. In Australia and New Zealand, the post-nominal is CPEng.
