Recent Development

1) Chiba Institute of Science was being built in Choshi in 2002 hoping to bring new lease of life in this dying fishing town.

2) Closure of Jujiya shopping mall (largest in the town) in 2005 probably indicates the decrease in the town population of working adults that normally hold the spending power in shopping mall. With so much to offer in Tokyo, young people will choose to leave the dying town for the upbeat capital city just 2 hours away.
