Council of Elders

The Council of Elders is the name given by several organizations to a group of people entrusted in some way with the organization's direction.

Some organisations that have Councils of Elders include:

• Some Native American tribes
• The German National Parliament (Bundestag)
• The United Church of God
• various other cultures wiccan traditions
• Somaliland

The word Senate is derived from the Latin word Senatus. Senex means "old man". Senatus roughly translates to Council of Elders.
