Dan-Air

Dan-Air Services Ltd was an airline based in the United Kingdom that commenced operations in 1953. It was a subisdary of Davies and Newman a shipping broker. It operated in the later years from London Gatwick Airport operating holiday charter flights.
It operated a large fleet of De Havilland Comet aircraft, becoming the last airline to operate the type. It was also one of the last carriers outside of the Third World to operate the BAC 1-11.
After a period of difficulty it was sold to British Airways in 1992 for a nominal £1 and absorbed into British Airways Gatwick operation.
Incidents and accidents
A De Havilland Comet (Registration G-APDN) on a charter flight from Manchester to Barcelona crashed on the 3 July 1970 into a mountain near the village of Arbucies in Catalonia in North Spain. The aircraft was destroyed and 105 passengers and 7 crew died.
An Avro 748 (Registration G-BEKF) crashed on the 31 July 1979 in the Shetland Islands, Scotland. The aircraft failed to become airborne and crashed into the sea. The cause was the elevator gust-lock had become re-engaged preventing the aircraft rotating into a flying attitude. The aircraft was destroyed and 17 persons died of drowning.
A Boeing 727-64 (Registration G-BDAN) crashed on the 25 April 1980 while on approach to land at Los Rodeos Airport in Tenerife, Canary Islands. The aircraft flew into high-terrain when it turned the wrong way in the holding pattern. The aircraft was destroyed and all 146 on board perished.
