David Dav Pilkey (b.March 4 1966), is a popular children's author and artist.

Pilkey was born in Cleveland, Ohio. At the age of four, Pilkey got kicked out of "Safety School" by "hurling objects out of the window." In high school, Pilkey was insulted and teased by teachers about his artwork and sense of humor. When Pilkey was in college, he was scribbling cartoons in his notebook, then his professor saw the drawings and encouraged Pilkey to illustrate children's books, and so, due to the pressure of encouragement, he was rushed to a nearby hospital. After the recovery, Pilkey wrote and illustrated his first children's book and got it published. In elementary school, he was diagnosed as suffering from Attention Deficit Disorder. Frequently sent to sit at a desk in the hallway because of his disruptive behavior and humorous pranks, and with writing materials hidden inside the desk, Pilkey began creating his first comic books. He also created the Captain Underpants comics. Everyone loves his comics, except for his teacher.

His odd nickname came from a spell of employment in a pizza parlor; the management spelt his name "Dav" on his card, and the mistake stuck. He published the Dumb Bunnies series of books under the nom de plume Sue Denim, a joke form of “pseudonym”.

Pilkey wrote and illustrated the popular Captain Underpants series, the Ricky Ricotta series, and The Adventures of Super Diaper Baby. He also wrote the Dumb Bunnies series (the humorous adventures of Momma Bunny, Baby Bunny, and Poppa Bunny), and the Dragon series. He published his first book, World War Won, when he was only nineteen years old.

He currently lives in Oregon, and is a vegan.
