Dirk Diggler
From Free net encyclopedia
Dirk Diggler (born approx. 1960) is a fictional porn star of the 1970s who featured in Paul Thomas Anderson's 1997 movie Boogie Nights (played by Mark Wahlberg). Diggler's first appearance was in Anderson's short film The Dirk Diggler Story. The character of Dirk Diggler is loosely based on real-world porn star John Holmes.
Diggler, (whose real name is Eddie Adams) was discovered in the San Fernando Valley as a teen by adult movie producer Jack Horner (played in Boogie Nights by Burt Reynolds).
Diggler's life at home wasn't very pleasant, so he moved in with Horner and his wife, adult film star Amber Waves. Later on, Dirk and Amber had an affair.
Dirk became a huge star during the 1970s, his name reaching the mainstream and his face appearing on the cover of Time Magazine, among others. Diggler's movies were very popular, possibly due to his 13-inch penis. He also got to be with a lot of actresses off-camera, in addition to the ones he had sex with for the purpose of his films. But with all that money, fame and lifestyle came a dark side too: he had to endure a suicide by one of his co-workers, and he began dabbling in drugs.
Dirk tried at one point during the late '70s to turn his porn industry success into a music career, but soon after entering the music studio, he gave up on that idea.
By the early 1980s, Dirk's drug habit as well as his arrogance almost ruined him. He wasn't in high demand by adult film producers because they had newer, younger actors who they thought could become popular too. As a consequence, Dirk lost almost all of his money and he began wandering the streets, trying to hustle to earn an income before finally pulling his act together.
His fate is unknown after the events of Boogie Nights.
Dirk Diggler is also the nickname of Dallas Mavericks basketball player Dirk Nowitzki.
In the video game "Diablo II", there is an easter egg related to this character. One of the items that can be found by the player's in-game personality is a dirk known as "The Diggler".
