Eniwa, Hokkaido

Eniwa (恵庭市; -shi) is a city located in Ishikari, Hokkaido, Japan.

As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 66,410 and the density of 225.22 persons per km2. The total area is 294.87 km2.

The city was founded on November 1, 1970.

Eniwa is accessed by an expressway with an interchange in the west and route 36 runs through Eniwa and route 453.

History

  • 1897 Izari and Shimamatsu Village split off of Chitose Village
  • 1906 Izari Village and Shimamatsu Village merge to form Second class municipality Eniwa Village
  • 1923 Eniwa becomes a First Class Municipality
  • 1951 Eniwa Village becomes Eniwa Town
  • November 1,1970 Eniwa Town becomes Eniwa City
