History

Image:TV star trek tng rachel garrett.jpg When the ship was built and commissioned is not known. Fans have assumed that the ship had been in service for at least several years prior to 2344 when it was under the command of Captain Rachel Garrett. It is not known if anyone else commanded the ship previously.

In the year 2344, Romulans attacked the Klingon outpost at Narendra III. The Enterprise, under the command of Captain Garrett, answered the distress call from the outpost. The Enterprise engaged the Romulans, but there were four warbards. An exchange of fire between the Starfleet ship and the Romulans was the catalyst for the formation of a Kerr Loop; a disruption in the fabric of the space-time continuum. With destruction almost certain, the Enterprise limped through the distortion in a last-ditch effort to escape. When it emerged, it found itself in an alternate timeline in the mid 2360's. In this timeline, the Federation and the Klingon Empire were at war, with the Federation slowly losing.

There, it encountered the Enterprise-D. The Enterprise-D managed to repair most of the damage to the Enterprise-C and treat the injured crew, 125 of which had survived. Captain Jean-Luc Picard persuaded Captain Garrett into returning through the disruption to fix the disruption to the timeline that Guinan had described to him. When a Klingon ship attacked, Captain Garrett died in a bridge explosion. Her surviving crew, under the command of helm officer lieutenant junior grade Richard Castillo, along with that timeline's Lt. Tasha Yar took the ship back into the disruption. This act returned the Enterprise-C to Narendra III in 2344 at the moment she had previously disappeared.

After an intense battle, Enterprise was destroyed by the Romulan forces. Even though the Narendra III outpost didn't survive the Romulan attack, the fact that the Enterprise and its crew members sacrificed themselves to try to protect Klingons convinced the Klingons that the Federation was honorable. This event reaffirmed the friendship between the two powers and eventually led to full alliance between the two empires.

After the battle, survivors of the Enterprise-C were taken prisoner by the Romulans. For many years, rumors to this effect persisted, but without proof Starfleet could not take any action. In 2368, Romulan Commander Sela told Captain Picard that the rumors were true, and that she was living proof - she was Tasha Yar's daughter.
