Epping is a town located in Rockingham County, New Hampshire, USA. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 5,476.

History
Image:Main Street, Epping, NH.jpg In 1741, the Town of Epping was granted a charter and incorporated as a town in New Hampshire. Epping was the last town chartered by Massachusetts Governor Jonathan Belcher prior to the Province of New Hampshire becoming independent from Massachusetts. Epping split away from Exeter and was named for Epping Forest, a suburb of London, England.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 67.9 km² (26.2 mi²). 67.4 km² (26.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.76% water.

As of the 2000 census, there were 5,476 people, 2,047 households, and 1,473 families residing in the town. The population density was 81.2/km² (210.4/mi²). There were 2,215 housing units at an average density of 32.9 persons/km² (85.1 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 97.08% White, 0.27% African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.44% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.15% from other races, and 1.83% from two or more races. 0.77% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 2,047 households out of which 35.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.7% were married couples living together, 8.5% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 28.0% were non-families. 21.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.12.
In the town the population was spread out with 27.1% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 34.6% from 25 to 44, 22.4% from 45 to 64, and 9.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.8 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $50,739, and the median income for a family was $54,722. Males had a median income of $40,273 versus $25,440 for females. The per capita income for the town was $21,109. 3.3% of the population and 2.6% of families were below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 4.6% are under the age of 18 and 6.1% are 65 or older.
