Fort Oglethorpe is a city located in Catoosa County, Georgia. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 6,940.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 33.7 km² (13.0 mi²). 33.7 km² (13.0 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 6,940 people, 2,873 households, and 1,881 families residing in the city. The population density was 205.6/km² (532.6/mi²). There were 3,108 housing units at an average density of 92.1/km² (238.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 93.14% White, 2.38% African American, 0.19% Native American, 2.07% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.56% from other races, and 1.63% from two or more races. 1.41% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 2,873 households, out of which 29.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.0% were married couples living together, 15.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.5% were non-families. 30.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.29 and the average family size was 2.86.
In the city the population was spread out with 22.8% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 26.3% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 19.6% 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 82.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 76.9 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $32,095, and the median income for a family was $40,643. Males had a median income of $28,160 versus $21,141 for females. The per capita income for the city was $16,288. 17.4% of the population and 11.5% of families were below the poverty line. 30.8% of those under the age of 18 and 11.3% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
