Frederick Eugene Ives (1856 - 1937) was a U.S. inventor. He was a pioneer of colour photography. Although he did hold a patent for the half-tone letterpress as of 1878, the half-tone photo engraving process was first invented by Canadians George Edouard Desbarats and William Leggo. It was first used in 1869 by the Canadian Illustrated News.
