Fulshear is a town located in Fort Bend County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 716. Fulshear is part of the Houston Metropolitan Area.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 21.2 km² (8.2 mi²). 21.1 km² (8.2 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 716 people, 251 households, and 192 families residing in the city. The population density was 33.9/km² (87.7/mi²). There were 260 housing units at an average density of 12.3/km² (31.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 59.92% White, 24.02% African American, 0.42% Native American, 0.70% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 13.41% from other races, and 1.54% from two or more races. 22.49% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 251 households out of which 39.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.9% were married couples living together, 11.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.5% were non-families. 20.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.85 and the average family size was 3.33.

In the city the population was spread out with 32.1% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 27.4% from 25 to 44, 25.3% from 45 to 64, and 8.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 98.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.8 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $44,375, and the median income for a family was $54,444. Males had a median income of $40,893 versus $36,563 for females. The per capita income for the city was $19,489. 22.8% of the population and 15.6% of families were below the poverty line. 24.8% of those under the age of 18 and 27.6% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.

Education

Fulshear is zoned to schools in the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District.

Fulshear's Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library is a part of the Fort Bend County Libraries system.
