Ge with upturn
From Free net encyclopedia
Template:Cyrillic alphabet navbox Ge (Ґ, ґ, also called ghe or ge with upturn) is a letter of the Cyrillic alphabet representing Template:IPA, like g in the English word go.
Originally part of the Ukrainian and Belarusian alphabets, its function was replaced by the letter ge г in the Soviet Union after 1933 (г represents Template:IPA in Belarusian and Ukrainian, and Template:IPA in Russian).
In Ukrainian, ґ continued to be used by the diaspora, and has been reintroduced since Ukraine's independence. It is also used in the Rusyn language. Its reintroduction into Belarusian has been proposed by some linguists.
