Geertruidenberg is a municipality and a city in the southern Netherlands. The city is named after Saint Gertrude of Nivelles, meaning literally 'Gertrude's mountain'.

The city of Geertruidenberg

Geertruidenberg received city rights in 1213. Today it's part of the province of Noord Brabant, but Geertruidenberg used to be part of the county of Holland. Geertruidenberg is the oldest city of Holland. It was the first to receive such right in Holland not in the Netherlands.
