Hachinohe, Aomori

Hachinohe (八戸市; -shi) is a city located in Aomori, Japan.
As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 241,663 and a density of 1,129.42 persons per km². The total area is 213.97 km².
The city was founded on May 1, 1929. It was a castle town during the Tokugawa era (1603–1867) and served as a small commercial centre and port for the fishing grounds off southeastern Hokkaido.
The northern terminus of the Tōhoku Shinkansen is at Hachinohe Station.
