Hardin Richard Runnels

Hardin Richard Runnels (August 30, 1820–December 25, 1873) was a U.S. political figure. He served as the Governor of Texas between 1857 and 1859. His defeat of Sam Houston in the 1857 election for governor marked the only time that Houston ever lost an election.
