Hoquiam (pronounced Template:IPA) is a city located in Grays Harbor County, Washington. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 9,097.

History
Hoquiam was officially incorporated on May 21, 1890. For more history on this general area look for Aberdeen, Washington as they are neighboring communities. The area continues to struggle to reclaim its own identity from Aberdeen. The City is the home of the world acclaimed Loggers Playday, a logging competition and parade held every September. The city's current mayor is Jack Durney who, ironically, was Aberdeen's mayor at one point. The city is proud of its Hoquiam High School Grizzly fanbase.
The city also serves as the home town to Daily World publisher John Hughes, widely respected among the journalism community as being one of the best reporters and editors in the country.
Hoquiam Plywood and The Westport Shipyard are the city's two largest employers.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 40.4 km² (15.6 mi²). 23.8 km² (9.2 mi²) of it is land and 16.6 km² (6.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 41.14% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 9,097 people, 3,640 households, and 2,245 families residing in the city. The population density was 383.0/km² (992.0/mi²). There are 4,023 housing units, with an average density of 169.4/km² (438.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 89.32% White, 0.32% African American, 3.86% Native American, 1.18% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 2.09% from other races, and 3.18% from two or more races. 5.75% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,640 households, out of which 31.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.8% were married couples living together, 14.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.3% were non-families. 31.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 persons; the average family size is 3.09.
In the city the population was spread out with 27.4% under the age of 18, 8.6% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 22.0% from 45 to 64, and 15.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 94.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.3 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $29,658, and the median income for a family was $34,859. Males had a median income of $33,417, versus $23,558 for females. The per capita income for the city was $15,089. 19.0% of the population and 16.1% of families were below the poverty line. 26.5% of those under the age of 18 and 8.9% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
