Story

The player character, David Jones, covert operative of the International Geotactical Institute (IGI); is sent on a mission to recover stolen computer chip technology. The trail leads the player to a Chinese general, who intends to employ an EMP device to knock out US satellites; and consequently the GPS system - rendering the US intelligence services blind.

Despite basing the story for this game on US Congressional Defence hearings the Chinese Authorities banned the game in China for its smearing national character. Odd really, given the game was not released in China.

Highlights

Contains a lot of vivid terrain graphics, real world weapons, an actively engaging AI and equally absorbing background music scores. In game music is fantastic. Saving a game is now possible as compared to Project IGI part I.

Gameplay

Since Covert Strike is the major game clan, it often requires you to carry minimal ammo supply with just one primary weapon and one secondary weapon. The concept of disallowing a player to carry a barrage of weapons makes the game unplayable at times as applying a strategy is made indirectly proportional to the allowed bullet count instead. At times it becomes impossible to deploy a covert strike against enemy targets and you might just get killed with no place to hide. Overall the gameplay revolves around patience and practice. Even though it is categorized under first person shooter this game is surely not for players who find Quake III Arena or Unreal Tournament enjoyable.
