John Bigler

Image:John Bigler.jpg John Bigler (January 8, 1805 – November 29, 1871) was Democratic Governor of California from January 8, 1852 until January 9, 1856. His brother was William Bigler, Governor of Pennsylvania.

Bigler was born in 1805 in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. His brother William Bigler later became Governor of Pennsylvania.

Bigler was a popular governor and had a lake named after him in 1854. However, during the American Civil War, due to his Confederate sympathies, the lake was renamed to Lake Tahoe. He died in Sacramento, California in 1871.
