John Fitzpatrick, 1st Earl of Upper Ossory

John Fitzpatrick, 1st Earl of Upper Ossory (1719 - 23 September, 1758), lived in County Cork Ireland.

Decended from Barnaby Fitzpatrick 1st B. Upper Ossory, who took an oath of allegiance to King Henry VIII on October 8 1537. He was one of the first in Ireland to do so and as a reward, he was knighted on June 11 1541. He married Margaret Butler, daughter of Earl Butler the Lord Deputy of Ireland.

  • In 1878 his descendants are recorded as possessing no less than twenty-two thousand acres (89 km²) of the best land in Ossory
