John Ousterhout

John Ousterhout was a professor of Computer Science at UC Berkeley. While there, he invented the scripting programming language Tcl and the platform-independent GUI toolkit Tk. Ousterhout is also the original author of the VLSI CAD program Magic. Ousterhout designed the 4.4 BSD Log File System (LFS) but left the work unfinished.

He received his Bachelor's degree in Physics from Yale University, and his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University.

Ousterhout received the Grace Murray Hopper Award in 1987.

Ousterhout founded and is the chairman of Electric Cloud, Inc.
