Layton is a city located in Davis County, Utah. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 58,474 and by 2004 had been estimated at 61,205.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 54.0 km² (20.8 mi²). 53.6 km² (20.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.62% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 58,474 people, 18,282 households, and 14,771 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,090.1/km² (2,823.9/mi²). There were 19,145 housing units at an average density of 356.9/km² (924.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 89.91% White, 1.61% African American, 0.53% Native American, 2.08% Asian, 0.27% Pacific Islander, 3.09% from other races, and 2.52% from two or more races. 6.96% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 18,282 households out of which 48.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.4% were married couples living together, 9.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.2% were non-families. 15.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.19 and the average family size was 3.59.
In the city the population was spread out with 35.1% under the age of 18, 12.1% from 18 to 24, 30.3% from 25 to 44, 16.8% from 45 to 64, and 5.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 27 years. For every 100 females there were 101.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.1 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $52,128, and the median income for a family was $57,193. Males had a median income of $40,409 versus $26,646 for females. The per capita income for the city was $19,604. 5.6% of the population and 5.0% of families were below the poverty line. 7.0% of those under the age of 18 and 4.0% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
