- Back is the name of a village on the Isle of Lewis, in Scotland's Outer Hebrides.
- The human back is the large posterior area of the body rising from the top of the buttocks to the back of the neck.
- In anatomy, the back usually refers to the posterior side of the torso in humans and other primates. It is supported by the vertebral column.
- In stringed musical instruments, the back is the lower or inner surface of the resonant cavity; the opposite one, nearer the strings, is the belly.
- Back can also refer to the direction of travel exactly opposite the current movement.
- Back in slang can mean to support, as in Backing the home team.
- In many sports, a back is a player whose normal position is behind the forwards. In Rugby union, this means a player who is not involved in the scrum. At Football and Hockey and many other games it means a player who is defending the goal. It is often qualified with additional "measures", left back, quarterback, half back, full back, running back, and so on.
- In the English town of Cambridge, The Backs (in the plural and with a capital letter) means the area behind the main colleges, alongside the River Cam.
- A non-alcoholic drink consumed immediately after drinking a potent liquor, to dull the harsh taste of alcohol.
- An alternative spelling of bauk, a Scottish agricultural term.
