Template:Infobox Scotland council area Midlothian (Meadhan Lodainn in Gaelic) is one of the 32 council areas of Scotland, and a lieutenancy area. It borders onto Scottish Borders, East Lothian and the City of Edinburgh.

Before 1996 it was a district within the former Lothian Region and prior to 1975 it was a county, when it included the city of Edinburgh, and was sometimes called Edinburghshire during the 19th century.
