Minneapolis, Kansas, is a city located in Ottawa County, Kansas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 2,046. It is the county seat of Ottawa CountyTemplate:GR. Minneapolis, KS is not, however, named after the much larger and more famous city of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Rock City is located just southwest of town.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.5 km² (1.7 mi²). 4.5 km² (1.7 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 2,046 people, 810 households, and 512 families residing in the city. The population density was 454.0/km² (1,173.6/mi²). There were 914 housing units at an average density of 202.8/km² (524.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 96.97% White, 1.32% African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.05% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.29% from other races, and 1.12% from two or more races. 1.52% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 810 households out of which 29.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.1% were married couples living together, 8.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.7% were non-families. 33.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.29 and the average family size was 2.92.
In the city the population was spread out with 22.9% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 25.0% from 25 to 44, 21.5% from 45 to 64, and 23.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 91.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $34,792, and the median income for a family was $43,750. Males had a median income of $29,028 versus $21,174 for females. The per capita income for the city was $17,628. 9.7% of the population and 3.7% of families were below the poverty line. 8.4% of those under the age of 18 and 16.8% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
