Mount Pocono is a borough located in Monroe County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 2,742.
Geography
Mount Pocono is located at 41°7'23" North, 75°21'34" West (41.123012, -75.359574)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 9.0 km² (3.5 mi²). 9.0 km² (3.5 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 2,742 people, 1,038 households, and 712 families residing in the borough. The population density was 306.0/km² (792.2/mi²). There were 1,239 housing units at an average density of 138.3/km² (358.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough was 81.95% White, 10.83% African American, 0.15% Native American, 0.91% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 3.54% from other races, and 2.63% from two or more races. 10.14% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 1,038 households out of which 35.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.8% were married couples living together, 11.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.4% were non-families. 25.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.19.
In the borough the population was spread out with 27.5% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 29.1% from 25 to 44, 21.6% from 45 to 64, and 14.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 91.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.8 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $40,224, and the median income for a family was $48,700. Males had a median income of $35,571 versus $23,047 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $19,068. 10.4% of the population and 7.6% of families were below the poverty line. 11.7% of those under the age of 18 and 8.7% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
