The National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI) is a SCUBA diver training organization concerned with promoting dive safety through education.

Naui was founded by Los Angeles Underwater Instructor's Council Instructors Albert A. Tillman and John C. Jones in 1959.

Captain Jacques-Yves Cousteau, the inventor of the aqualung, was on the board of directors of N.A.U.I. Lloyd Bridges, who, as character "Mike Nelson" on the ZIV T.V. series "Sea Hunt", popularized scuba diving on a mass basis in America for the first time, was NAUI certified. Buster Crabbe, the famous Olympic swimmer and movie star, was a NAUI instructor. Most of the top universities, colleges and institutes of technology in the United States certify their students through NAUI.

Formed in 1959, NAUI Worldwide is the USA's oldest not-for-profit membership training agency organized solely to support and promote dive safety through education (The British Sub Aqua Club, BSAC, was formed in 1953). NAUI Worldwide offers a full range of training programs from Skin Diver through Instructor Course Director, with dozens of specialty courses including nitrox and technical diving. Thousands of member Instructors, affiliated stores, resorts, and service centers are located in countries throughout the world.

NAUI Technical Training Operations codified tec community training practices resulting in a higher standard of training worldwide. For expert help, NAUI Tec asked the people who created the technology, protocols and training methods that produced a tec diving community. As a result of their work, NAUI Instructors can provide you with the skills, knowledge and discipline to manage technical diving while minimizing risk.
