Napakiak is a city located in Bethel Census Area, Alaska. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city is 353.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 13.0 km² (5.0 mi²). 12.1 km² (4.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.8 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 6.19% water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 353 people, 90 households, and 71 families residing in the city. The population density was 29.1/km² (75.2/mi²). There were 101 housing units at an average density of 8.3/km² (21.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 1.42% White, 1.70% Black or African American, 96.03% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.85% from two or more races. 0.28% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 90 households out of which 48.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.3% were married couples living together, 18.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.1% were non-families. 16.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.92 and the average family size was 4.52.

In the city the population was spread out with 38.8% under the age of 18, 9.1% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 17.0% from 45 to 64, and 7.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 26 years. For every 100 females there were 130.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 109.7 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $28,750, and the median income for a family was $29,167. Males had a median income of $26,250 versus $43,750 for females. The per capita income for the city was $7,319. 20.2% of the population and 16.2% of families were below the poverty line. 20.7% of those under the age of 18 and 9.1% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.

Napakiak is the terminus of a unique 8.5 mile prototype single wire ground return electrical intertie from Bethel, Alaska, constructed in 1981.
