Neisseria

Neisseria are gram-negative diplococci which resemble coffee beans when viewed microscopicaly. The genus includes the species
- N. gonorrhoeae, which causes gonorrhoea, and
- N. meningitidis, one of the most common causes of bacterial meningitis.
