Peace be upon him

Peace be upon him (Arabic: صلى الله عليه وسلم;ﷺ; salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam, also transliterated as sallalahu aleyhi wasallam) is a phrase that Muslims often say after mentioning the name of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. An alternative translation is "May God bless him and grant him peace." In Arabic, these greetings are called salawat. The English version is translated as PBUH , while the Arabic version is abbreviated as SAW or saas.
For the other prophets and Islamic angels, a more abbreviated form with the same meaning, alayhi is-salaam (عليه السلام abbreviated as AS), is often used. This blessing is used by Shia Muslims after mentioning Ali ibn Abi Talib or one of the imams they believe followed Ali.
It is seen as a mark of respect and is related to the Islamic concept of dhikr ("remembrance").
For sahaba, radhi allahu taala anhu (for male) & radhi allahu taala anha (for female) is used. For other respected people/saints, usually rehmat ullah alaih, and sometimes damat barakatuhum, are used .
