Pembroke Dock

Pembroke Dock (Welsh: Doc Penfro) is a town in South Pembrokeshire, Wales, lying north of Pembroke at the end of the Milford Haven.
The town was founded in the 1814 when a naval dockyard was established. Moreover, five Royal yachts were built along with 263 other Naval vessels. With the closure of the Dockyard in 1926, unemployment was high until the arrival of the flying boats in 1938. For almost 20 years the RAF base at Pembroke Dock was home to the Sunderland Flying Boats and during 1943 it was the largest operational base for flying boats in the world.
Today, the river Cleddau still plays a vital part in the livelihood of the town as it is now predominantly a ferry port, from which ferries sail to Rosslare in the Republic of Ireland. Its other major industry is oil refining.
Attractions in Pembroke Dock include the 1851 Martello Tower, now a local museum. The Cleddau Bridge leads north from the town, over the Daugleddau estuary.
