Primary is an adjective meaning "first" or "first hand". It may refer to:

  • Primary education or Primary school
  • Primary care.
  • A primary satellite is the most massive component of a gravitationally bound system.
  • A primary winding the driven winding of a transformer
  • A primary election.
  • The movie Primary.
  • The Primary beams, or Primaries, used in E. E. Smith's Lensman series. The energy required to generate the beam was such that after firing, each projector had to be discarded as the energy of the primary beam quickly rendered it useless.
  • In the United Kingdom medical fraternity, the 'Primary' is short for the Primary Examination of the Diploma of Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists, or 'Primary FRCA'.
  • A Primary functional group (or usually ion) attached to carbon atom connected to 1 or no other Carbon atoms in organic chemistry
  • Primary, a 1981 single by rock band The Cure
