From Free net encyclopedia
Prince Wilhelm of Sweden and Norway, Carl Wilhelm Ludwig (June 17, 1884 - June 5, 1965), Duke of Sudermannia, was the second son of King Gustav V of Sweden and his Queen consort Victoria of Baden.
On March 13, 1914, Wilhelm married Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna of Russia. She was a daughter of Grand Duke Paul Alexandrovich and Alexandra Georgievna of Greece. Her paternal grandparents were Alexander II of Russia and Marie of Hesse and by Rhine. Her maternal grandparents were George I of Greece and his Queen consort Olga Konstantinova of Russia.
Wilhelm and Maria had a single son: Prince Lennart, Duke of Smalandia and later Count Bernadotte af Wisborg (1909-2004). In his autobiography, Lennart tells of how his grandfather, the King, insisted that the servants call Maria by her correct style Your Imperial Highness, to some dismay of her husband, who was of course "only" a Royal Highness.nl:Willem van Zweden pl:Wilhelm Bernadotte
