Quantrix
From Free net encyclopedia
Quantrix is a powerful spreadsheet program, based on the same concepts and general layout as the seminal Lotus Improv. It was originally developed and sold for NeXTSTEP and OPENSTEP by Lighthouse Design, the famous NeXT-based "virtual development company" that was later bought by Sun Microsystems. The product was later licensed to a new company known simply as Quantrix, who sells it under the name Quantrix Modeler.
Like Improv, Quantrix is sold primarily into the financials industry, where its ability to manipulate various data "dimensions" makes it easy to re-arrange input data to view it in a number of different time series. In this particular usage, it may be assumed that dimension is synonymous with class, a mathematical term. Ergo, Quantrix allows a user to model financial systems by computing relationships between many classes of data. This capability, according to Quantrix, is what most significantly separates it from traditional spreadsheets; traditional spreadsheets are said to be suitable only for two dimensions.
