Smolan is a city located in Saline County, Kansas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 218.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.4 km² (0.1 mi²). 0.4 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 218 people, 79 households, and 63 families residing in the city. The population density was 601.2/km² (1,575.5/mi²). There were 83 housing units at an average density of 228.9/km² (599.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.71% White, 0.46% African American, 0.46% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.38% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 5.50% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 79 households out of which 41.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.4% were married couples living together, 6.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.0% were non-families. 16.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 2.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.76 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the city the population was spread out with 31.2% under the age of 18, 5.0% from 18 to 24, 32.1% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 9.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 101.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 108.3 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $40,500, and the median income for a family was $43,750. Males had a median income of $26,750 versus $23,750 for females. The per capita income for the city was $16,149. 10.0% of the population and 10.3% of families were below the poverty line. 12.5% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
