Students Against Destructive Decisions

Students Against Destructive Decisions is an after-school program aimed at keeping students from consuming alcoholic beverages prior to driving, and discouraging the use of drugs.

Based in Marlborough, Massachusetts, SADD currently stands for Students Against Destructive Decisions". "Students Against Driving Drunk" was the organization's founding name. Another name is "Students Against Doing Drugs" The acronym for the name was inspired by an older organization called MADD, Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

SADD was founded by Robert Anastas at Wayland High School in Wayland, Massachusetts in 1981. Anastas founded the organization with his students after two Wayland High School hockey players were killed in separate car crashes.

Originally conceived to help teenagers realize the dangers of drinking and driving, SADD has expanded its field of concern to educating youth about issues stemming from alcohol and drug use. The heart of this mission has always been the SADD Contract for Life.
