WinLinux simulates a Linux environment on a running Windows operating system (only Windows 95, 98 and Me are supported, and it does not run on Windows 2000, NT, or XP). The current version is WinLinux 2003. It runs like a Windows application and as such does not require a separate boot or partition. The boot up is simulated on Windows. It can run Linux applications such as KDE.

Since Linux is unaffected by Windows viruses, WinLinux could be appealing for those who would like to run applications such as e-mail on WinLinux or learn Linux for the first time as there is no need to fear accidentally destroying a partition.
