Plot
Template:Sgspoiler While General Hammond is showing SG-1 trinium discovered on PX4-887 by SG-11, the Stargate suddenly activates and a pure, trinium arrow flies through, impaling O'Neill in the arm. Grounded from the mission to the aformentioned planet, Carter must take over SG-1 in O'Neill's stead to investigate the missing SG-11 and attempt to negotiate for more trinium with the natives.
As SG-1 is examining a strange statue on the planet, they are knocked out by people resembling Native Americans. When they awake, they are greeted by a lighthearted native named Tonane. He cheerfully returns their weapons and supplies but is adamant about having no connection to SG-11’s disappearance. After Daniel and Carter converse with animals which Tonane claims are his “spirits,” SG-11 mysteriously emerges from a strange mist. Having retrieved SG-11, Carter speaks with the Salesh tribe elders to try and negotiate a contract with them to extract more of their “key” (the Salesh word for trinium). They refuse Earth’s initial mining methods but Carter says there are other ways to mine the trinium and brings Tonane to Earth to see these techniques.
As Tonane views the alternate means of mining, he unwaveringly holds his position that the Earth way is too destructive. However, General Hammond, divulges a plan to SG-1 that includes mining the trinium after the Salesh migrate elsewhere during the winter. Unfortunately, the Salesh spirits, disguised as several SGC personnel, hear of the plan and begin to cause people to vanish all over the base simply by waving their hands. SG-1 is finally able neutralize Xe’ls with a Zat. While O’Neill tries to show Tonane who the “spirits” really are, Daniel reasons with another spirit, T'akaya, to listen to his case for the captured Xe’ls.
After Xe’ls is revived and orders Takaya to destroy the SGC, O'Neill and Daniel are able to convince the spirits to let them live and return everyone. The spirits reveal themselves to Tonane and ask him in which form they pleased him best. He replies, “Whichever form pleases you best.” So, the spirits decide to shed their animal guises and remain in their distinguishable alien shape.
Notes
- The Salesh "spirits" shown in this episode have been considered possible candidates for the Furlings, one of the Four Great Races.
