Introduction
Strathclyde Business School (SBS) combines excellence with relevance and is recognised internationally. It is one of the top-rated UK business schools for teaching quality and research. The pioneering UK business school started offering a full-time one year MBA in 1966, the UK first school to do so.
The Business School has over 170 academic staff, over 2,100 undergraduate and 600 full-time (1,800 part-time) post-graduate students, and a turnover of over £23m. The 13 subject Departments and specialist units embrace not only the functional disciplines of management but also some of the supporting social sciences, and combine breadth with strength in depth. They collaborate to provide a full and varied programme of specialist and inter-disciplinary courses, and offer great flexibility and choice to students.
A Major Innovator
This School has earned a reputation for innovation in business and management education and pioneered developments in undergraduate teaching, the MBA and the Doctorate of Business Administration. They pioneered the study of Marketing and host one of the largest Departments in the country. The Scottish Hotel School is the only hotel school to be fully integrated into a business school in a British university. They initiated cross-disciplinary studies in Technology and Business Studies, and International Business and Modern Languages.
The Business School offered the first DBA (Doctor of Business Administration) in the country and introduced new methods of study for the MBA, being awarded the Queen's Award for Export Achievement for the open learning programme. Many in our extensive range of postgraduate instructional courses have received Research Council recognition, as have our facilities for research.
The Business School offers specialist training, research and consultancy services to meet the needs of individuals and organisations in most business sectors.
The Business School has achieved, from the Funding Councils, excellent and commendable ratings for the quality of its teaching, and international and national excellence ratings for its research.
It has full accreditation from the three main international accrediting bodies (AMBA, AACSB and EQUIS) being one of a handful of schools to do so.
Recent years have seen the prestige of the school slip somewhat largely due to increased competition from recent entrants to the MBA market such as Oxford University and Cambridge University.
Strengths include Strategic Management, Leadership and Scenario planning. Much of the learning experience is facilitated by the extensive and compulsory use of group work.
