Sulejman Tihić

Sulejman Tihić (born November 26, 1951) is a member of the rotating Presidency of Bosnia-Herzegovina, representing that nation's Bosniak community. Tihić became a member October 2002. He was the chairman of the presidency between February 28, 2004 and October 2004.

Sulejman Tihić was born in the town of Bosanski Šamac, located in northern Bosnia. Tihić got his degree in Law from the University of Sarajevo. In 1990, he was one of the founding members of the Bosniak Party of Democratic Action (SDA). During the war, Tihić was interned in a Serbian detention center for POW, regarding which he said (to a Slovenian Television reporter) that "[I] would not have survived the camp if there were no good Serbs". From 1994 to 1999, Tihić served as a diplomat in the Bosnian Foreign Ministry, in the rang of Minister Counsellor.

On October 13, 2001, Tihić was chosen to succeed Alija Izetbegović as head of the SDA party. He was elected to the Presidency on October 5, 2002. He is married, with three children.
